Sol Fest: A Sustainable Celebration

Spontaneous Celebrations, a non-profit arts organization in Jamaica Plain, is hosting a fundraiser on Friday, August 11th to raise money for solar panels for their community arts center. The event, called Sol Fest, will feature live music, a farm-to-table BBQ, and a cash bar.

The event will kick off at 6pm with a performance by Erin Harpe’s Country Blues Duo(Erin Harpe and Jim Countryman). Harpe is an award-winning singer-songwriter who is known for her passionate vocals and her soulful blend of country, blues, and folk music.

At 8pm, Zoë Knight & Mythical Beasts will take the stage. Knight is a local singer-songwriter who is known for her powerful voice and her original deep & funky rock & soul music. She will be joined by her band, Mythical Beasts, for a high-energy performance that is sure to get the crowd dancing.

In addition to the music, there will be a farm-to-table BBQ with food provided by local vendors. There will also be a cash bar and ice cream from JP Licks.

All proceeds from Sol Fest will go toward the purchase of solar panels for Spontaneous Celebrations’ community arts center. The center is committed to sustainability, and solar panels will help them reduce their carbon footprint and save money on energy costs.

Bonde Fine Wine Shop’s Sunday Wine Garden

Bonde Fine Wine Shop in Harvard Square is transforming their front yard into a wine garden every Sunday through October 30th. Each week, the garden will have a different theme, highlighting wines from a specific region or country.

On August 6th, the theme is East Coast wines. Sample wines from the Northeast, from Massachusetts to Vermont. On August 13th, it’s “On the Trail of Sasquatch: Oregon Wine.” On August 20th, sip on Washington-based wines. And on August 27th, celebrate New Mexico’s best.

The folks at Bonde are passionate about eco-responsible, natural, biodynamic, and altogether brilliant wines. They love sharing their vino know-how with visitors, so don’t be shy about asking questions.

The wine garden is open from 11am to 5pm, rain or shine. There’s no reservation required, so just show up and enjoy!

The 114th NAACP National Convention is taking place this weekend in Boston, Massachusetts. The convention will run from July 26-Aug 1st, 2023, and will be hosted at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The theme of the convention is “Thriving Together”, and the event will focus on issues of racial justice, voting rights, economic empowerment, and education.
